Disney Vacation Club, Getaways and RCI

Monday, May 4th, 2009

As many of you know from an earlier blog post of mine, Disney Vacation Club has left Interval International and affiliated with RCI.  Years ago Disney was with RCI and left it for Interval International.

So why the change back to RCI?  I was just looking on the RCI website at Getaways and noticed that Disney Vacation Club  has its very own separate listing and tab to click.

The lowest price for a “Getaway” is  $503.99  for a studio for 3 nights in the Disney Old Key West Resort.  There’s only one at that price and check is May 27.  That’s a great deal and I hope one of my reader’s grabs it.

Disney Key West Resort

Disney Key West Resort

There are 428 Getaways in Disney Resorts at the time of this post, but only a few are really good deals because they are last minute.  If you want anything other than last minute then 3 nights will cost you $1,100-$1400 for a 1 bedroom, $2,000-$2,400 for  a 2 bedroom and $3,300 for a 2 bedroom  checking in December 20 and checking out December 24.  These are all in the Disney Old Key West Resort.

You want a week at Disney’s Animal Kingdom over Christmas?  Then be prepared to fork over $8,171.99 for a 2 bedroom.  I’d like to know who RCI thinks will buy these expensive weeks and where they’re getting all this inventory from since most of it is from sold out resorts like the Old Key West?

My suspicion is that RCI made a deal with Disney Vacation Clubs to not only give them prominent advertising but to also rent out their owners week and might be one of the reasons they left Interval International.  Who knows?

Keep your eyes peeled for more cheap, last minute getaways in the Disney Resorts now that they’re part of RCI.  I’ve always found the extra vacations in Interval International to be more expensive.  But you’ll have to act fast when you see something like 3 nights for $500.

Jeff Pierce, The Timeshare Expert, has taught thousands of timeshare owners the secrets to getting the best exchanges with both RCI and Interval International for over 21 years.

His two books, The Timeshare Exchange Bible – RCI Weeks Edition, and The Timeshare Exchange Bible – Interval International, are the only and most authoritative in the timeshare industry today.

The Prospector at Aspen

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Here’s something I’ve rarely seen in 18 years. RCI has one Extra Vacation week in the Prospector in Aspen. It’s in a one bedroom that sleeps 6 maximum and RCI is charging $548.99 for the week. Check-in is November 30 2008.

Move quickly if you want this. There is already almost 2 feet of base with more snow on the way.

This is one of the best deals I’ve ever seen for RCI Extra Vacations and although the Prospector is a little old, you can’t beat the location. It’s right in the heart of the town.

Each unit features a beautiful view of Aspen Mountain, deck or patio, a sauna, whirlpool spa, fireplace, Internet access, television with VCR, telephone and a partial kitchen with an under counter refrigerator, microwave oven, electric skillet, garbage disposal and no conventional oven. All units are 1BR OCC: Max 4/Pri 4 with 1 bath, 1 queen bed and 1 Murphy bed. No pets are allowed at the resort. It is not necessary to have a car, as most attractions are within walking distance.

I just checked the Prospector’s rental rate for the same dates and the room is listed at $275/night plus tax. You’d pay $2,100/week at that rate or you can get it now from RCI for only $549. A great deal.

The only other timeshare in Aspen is the Hyatt Grand Aspen in Interval International.
